Do You Suffer From Hair Loss?
Hair on your pillow, hair in your brush or comb, hair in the shower tray. You are startled and wonder 'If you are going bald'. You're attached to your lush hair. You don't want to see it thinned out.
We all lose hair, but fortunately it grows back again. However, if you lose considerably more hair than you grow, you can eventually see that and we are often not happy about it.
You often realize it quickly yourself if you suffer from (abnormal) hair loss. More hair than usual in your brush or comb or in the sink soon sets off alarm bells, you can often see it in your hair.
In women, the hair becomes thinner across the board in the event of a loss. A less full bang or a thinner ponytail than before may indicate hair loss. With men it is even easier to establish. They are confronted with the so-called 'coves' (the hairline rises) and the balding circle on top of the head.
Hair loss and baldness are often genetically determined. If there is hair loss or thinning hair in your family, then it is possible (but not definite) that you will also have to deal with it yourself and unfortunately no miracle medication has been found against this type of hair loss.
There are products against hair loss but, as always, it is difficult to understand which will really work and which will be less effective. Your doctor may be able to help you with this.
Besides the genetic predisposition, there may also be other causes for hair loss. That is why it is always good to check what is going on and to consult your doctor.
For example, abnormal hair loss may be due to a change in hormone balance. Or it can be a symptom of a disease. Hair loss can also be caused by the use of certain medicines and in some cases, it can simply be due to 'mistreatment' of your hair (over aggressive styling techniques or harsh chemicals, for example). Factors such as stress and your daily diet can also play a role. Together with your doctor you can determine the cause of your hair loss and discuss whether to and what you can do about it.
In addition, your hairdresser can lend a hand to camouflage the hair loss. A new hairstyle can sometimes be very 'corrective'.
